As Oregon's comprehensive urban university, Portland State University's mission includes a commitment to teaching, research, and service in support of metropolitan and statewide needs. To meet this commitment, we have emphasized our connections to the community in both our undergraduate and graduate programs, through community-based learning courses, the Senior Capstone, practicums, and internships. PSU's motto, "Let Knowledge Serve the City," reflects but one side of our relationship with the metropolitan region, as knowledge gained from the city also serves teaching, learning, and research at the University.

By selecting the buttons along the top of this page, you will find information on some of the community-based activities underway at PSU. This information may help answer questions such as,

How do PSU students learn in the community?

Do students gain employment skills through community-based courses?

    How is community-based learning assessed?

How does University research serve the metropolitan region?
